Thousands have been displaced from homes as Lord Panda's wake grows (he has moved over four kilometers since his initial outburst), and the Japanese Self-Defense Force (SDF) has been mobilized to protect denizens against the gargantuan threat.
painter elements 2 is a fun game. ^-^ anyone want to give me a free, real copy of painter? in english -- this one came with my intuos 3 and it's all in japanese that i can't read.
that last part was a joke.

made this for the nvid art space contest a while back....was a fun thing to do...nothing serious....

my idea was people looking out at a planet being terraformed...
and the generations that would see it...

it was my first time to make an building let alone looking out into an
environment...
anyway it was a fun contest...

The Journey Begins...

The Journey Begins...

First off I just want to say thank you to all that have made any kind of input for this image...Basically if you have made ANY type of suggestion at all then I have tried it even if you didnt get to see it painted...even the more wilder of the suggestions were at least given a quick go...

I'm more going to write more a "background" about the image rather than a story...and by the end i hope you can see why..

First off when I started this challange I wanted to go for something a little dark...something that could lead to death, although I didnt want death represented in the picture in a "hey this person is going to die in the next few seconds via a big monster" kind of death...

I wanted it a little more subtle than that...something a little darker even...maybe more terrible in the end..

Another underlying thought that i've had for the image is that the person is 100% alone...even quite distanced from the viewer..he has no idea that we are watching...no wave good-bye and he goes of on his little trip. He is miles away from any other living creature...(maybe)...and that could be the way that it will end. But then again he could reach his goal, a goal that is so far off, so at the edge of his dreams reach that we are not allowed (by some neat trick of the artist or camera) to even see what it is. his Journey will leave the viewer behind quickly.

Basically this painting is a reaction to all the cute, happy, sexy, fluffy images that we see around us every day...I dont know why in such a strange and lonely world we are drawn to paint such easy and happy topics..escape(ism) in most case maybe, or perhaps a kind of shutting out of the real world around us...who knows? of course I do it quite alot...lol

So, in the end I suppose my image is about the real world..an image of the way I see the lives af all around me...you can make what you like of that..hehe

One last and final thought I have to say on this painting is that i think (as so many others have said) that it raises alot more questions than is answers.
who is he?
where is he?
why is he there?
how did he get there? (no supplies??)
where is he going?
is there a goal?
will he survive?
...the list goes on...

My very last thought is about these questions...

If we, as the viewer, are given all the answers on a nice neat little plate, where then is the fun of the Journey of art? this is not my intention to be lazy or make a simple picture (actually i think its alot harder than shoving a story right under the viewers nose..) what i have wanted to say in this image is "its up to YOU...THIS IS YOUR JOURNEY! please make of it what you will"

cheers...love CYB

and thanks again to all here at CGtalk.
you are all the best!

My Dolphin My King (m&s)

hello!
just thought I'd post my M&S work for some more feedback and comments..
this picture was done for an hour or so every night after work just as a test to see what i could do..
i wanted to make a story that invoked alot of feeling for the viewer..not just some uncreative semi-naked chick or fairy..
so yeah..
here is the story as posted on my thread..
A guy and a dolphin in a spaceship..they are the only two aboard..dolphin is a little suped up.. it can communicate on a higher level than normal..
the slave is the dolphin..tunned into the ship with its brain to run stuff for the human..hooked up with NANO-tech..although it is a happy slave..the dolphin likes its master and the master loves the dolphin in return (as they are the only two on the ship)..
but something goes wrong and the dolphin loses all control of the ship..they are now flying blind...when the master comes down to check on his friend something hits the ship or there is an explosion. the master gets half crushed infront of the tank by the ceiling above..he is pinned down and will surely die.
the dolphin cant go anywhere and cant control the ship to get help..he can do nothing but watch his master (and best friend) slowly die..with nobody else in the ship and no control the dolphin will soon start its own lonely death from starvation or some other not so nice fate..
-= -= -= -= -= -= -= -= -= -=
i got the basic idea from a book but in the book the dolphin doesnt control the ship and the guy is being killed by the dolphin..
but anyway i dont believe in the modernist point of view where the ariist creats the story..id like to know what the picture makes you think..what story does it invoke for YOU!
so plese feel free to post a small story on this thread..dunno it might be fun
anyway id like to hear whay more ppl think..

The Pass

This is a matte painting of a last city refuge..
Recently Ive read alot of sci-fi books or seen movies where the last of the humans on the planet get bundled into a small city for what ever reasons...it could be to preserve the environment, or to presereve humans from some outside force...or perhaps it could be that this last city is all we have left...Ill leave it up to you..
The image is made from about 100 photograph images as well as alot of painting to get it to come together...
I left it almost actionless to give the feeling that we are looking from the outside where humans have stopped interacting with this world..
The biggest trouble was that from the start I wanted a diffused light without strong directional shadows...so I had to paint alot of the strong drop shadow out of ALL my reference images...
This is my first ever serious attempt at matte painting...
In the future Id like to work in this area for film so this is the start of my folio for such a job...
expcct to see many more images over the next few weeks or months..
cheers..cyb
